The GCGF was first created on March 19th, 1996 as the Gyeonggi Credit Guarantee Association. At its creation, the GCGF was the first organization to be created in South Korea whose purpose of to revitalize the regional economy by providing financial support to small and medium business, as well as to small retailers that lack security. The organization was later renamed to the Gyeonggi Credit Guarantee Foundation in March 2000 as a result of the establishment of Regional Credit Guarantee Foundation Law in 1999.
